C1992-01 Travelling Allowances - Chief Executive Officers, Senior Executive Officers and Full-Time Statutory Appointees

Travelling Allowances within Australia:Travelling allowances have recently been reviewed following variations to the rates for Clause 39 of the Public Sector Management (General) Regulation, 1988 and the following rates are to be effective on and from 1 st December, 1991 for each group of officers.

Chief Executive Officers as set out in Schedule 3 A of the Public Sector Management Act 1988; Senior Executive Service Officers on Level 5 and above, and Statutory Officers receiving a cash salary of $87,486 or above are to be paid at the following rates:

Capital Cities

(including Canberra)

$210.00 per day or actual expenses as provided in Clause 47.

Elsewhere

$117.20 per day or actual expenses as provided in Clause 47.

All other Senior Executive Service Officers and Statutory Officers and Other Senior Officers on a salary above or equal to $65,759 per annum but below $87,486 per annum are to be paid at the following rates:

Capital Cities

(including Canberra)

$181.90 per day or actual expenses as provided in Clause 47.

Elsewhere

$113.35 per day or actual expenses as provided in Clause 47.

All other Officers on a salary below $65,759 per annurn are to be paid at the following rates:

Capital Cities

$153.75 per day or actual expenses as provided in Clause 47.

Elsewhere

$109.50 per day or actual expenses as provided in Clause 47.

2. Meal Allowances:

Meal Allowances for travel = involving an overnight stay have recently been reviewed following increases in rates for Clause 36 of the Public Sector Management (General) Regulation, 1988.

The new allowances to apply on and from I st December, 1991, in respect of all of the above groups of officers are:

  • Breakfast
  • Lunch
  • Dinner

3. Overseas Travelling Allowances:

The three levels of remuneration specified in 1. above that determine the travelling allowances payable within Australia also apply in calculating the rates payable for overseas travel. The Public Employment Industrial Relations Authority provides regular updated information in this respect to departments, based on the rates payable to officers in the Commonwealth Public Service. These rates vary for individual countries and are available from the Human Resources Branch of each departmental authority.

4. Classes of Air Travel:

In line with the above, the salary entitlement for business class air travel (Premier's Memo to Ministers No. 90-41 Classes of Air Travel for Officers) has been increased from $64,153 to $65,759 per annum, effective on and from 1. 12.91.

Please bring these new rates to the attention of your Department, any sub-department or other Authority coming within or associated with your administration.
