The Statutory and Other Offices Remuneration Tribunal has made its annual Determination of remuneration for the above office-holders and related groups effective 1 October 1992. A copy of the Determination, which was tabled in Parliament on 3 September 1992, and Gazetted on 4 September 1992, is attached.

The Tribunal has determined that there will be no increases in remuneration rates for these groups at this time in view of the economic climate.

In relation to Chief and Senior Executives, as there has now been no increase in the remuneration ranges for two years, Cabinet has approved removal of the present restrictions on the operation of the current remuneration ranges. As a result, the remuneration ranges as determined by the Tribunal in 1990 now fully apply.

Chief Executives may now approve, subject to formal performance review, remuneration increases for individual executives within the remuneration range for their level. In view of the current climate, Chief Executives are advised to exercise restraint. Any adjustments must be fully justified on the basis of performance and may not exceed 5% (and those cases should be the exception) over the next 12 months.

Ministers may review the remuneration of Chief Executives within their portfolio in light of annual performance review and on the basis set out above. Ministers whose portfolios encompass other statutory officers covered by the Determination are requested to ensure that the affected officers are advised accordingly.
