1. Travelling Allowances within Australia:

Travelling allowances have been adjusted in line with movements in the CP1 and the following rates are to be effective on and from 1st January, 1994 for each group of officers.

Chief Executive Officers as set out in Schedule 3 A of the Public Sector Management Act 1988; Senior Executive Service Officers on Level 5 and above, and Statutory officers receiving a cash salary of $88,334 pa or above are to be paid at the following rates:

Capital Cities (including Canberra)

$215.25 per day or actual expenses

Elsewhere

$120.15 per day or actual expenses

All other SES Officers and Statutory Officers and Other Senior Officers on a cash salary above or equal to $65,759 pa or below $88,334 pa are to be paid at the following rates:

Capital Cities (including, Canberra)

$184.50 per day or actual expenses

Elsewhere

$114.85 per day or actual expenses

In regard to the rates paid to part-time Statutory Officers, eg. part-time Chairman, Law Reform Commission, the discretion rests with the respective Minister as to whether these officers should be paid at public sector rates or at the above rates for Chief Executives, Senior Executives or full-time Statutory Officers.

Where an officer's itinerary includes 'free meals', e.g., meals provided at conferences, seminars, etc., departments are required to make a judgement. as to whether an officer's daily allowance should be discounted for such meals.

2. Meal Allowances:

Meal allowances for travel not involving an overnight stay remain at the current levels. These rates are:

• Breakfast $ 8.60
• Lunch $11.15
• Dinner $20.25

Please bring these new rates to the attention of your Department, any sub-department or other Authority coming within or associated with your administration.
