I write to advise of the recent amendments to the Public Sector Management (General) Regulation 1996 concerning the process for calculating HDA for SES officers relieving in other SES positions.

Chief Executives and SES Administrators should be aware of the revised provisions relating to relieving allowances for executive officers, contained in Section 38(2). Essentially, this provision allows for the Officer's employer to determine the amount of HDA payable within the range of the position classification being relieved. This advice supersedes that contained in Circular 1996-13.

The process for calculating HDA for non SES officers contained in Circular 1996-13 remains unchanged.
