Detailed Outline
I refer to Premier's Memorandum No. 96-23 concerning the NSW Government Work Scholarship Scheme for Olympians.
You will recall that public agencies have been encouraged to employ potential Olympic or Paralympic competitors to enable athletes to participate in elite sport and at the same time gain work experience while performing the duties of suitable positions. I have attached a copy of the guidelines for the scheme and I encourage you to consider the employment of Special Olympic Trainees to assist them to develop a career.
Pursuant to section 63 of the Public Sector Management Act 1988, 1 have determined a salary range specific to Special Olympic Trainees under the Scheme. The determination is attached and Department Heads may employ Trainees on any of the available levels based on their qualifications and experience.
Public agencies outside the public service may need to determine salaries and vary employment arrangements to allow participation in the scheme.
Any enquiries regarding the salary determination for Special Olympic Trainees may be directed to your Public Sector Management Office Client Contact Officer. Enquiries in relation to the Work Scholarship Scheme for Olympians and Paralympians may be directed to John Garburt on (02) 9228 3163.
