The Honourable A M Gleeson has relinquished the Office of Lieutenant-Governor of the State of New South Wales.

Her Majesty the Queen approved of the appointment of the Honourable James Jacob Spigelman, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, as Lieutenant-Governor of the State of New South Wales. The Honourable Chief Justice Spigelman took the Oath of Office on 18^th June 1998.

In the event that the Lieutenant-Governor assumes the administration of the Government of the State of New South Wales, the full title for use in respect of Commissions, Proclamations, etc is:-

"His Excellency the Honourable James Jacob Spigelman, Lieutenant Governor of the State of New South Wales in the Commonwealth of Australia".

or

"I, the Honourable James Jacob Spigelman, Lieutenant-Governor of the State of New South Wales".

Where, in the case of certain proclamations, the use of a shorter title would be appropriate, the title:-

"The Honourable James Jacob Spigelman, Lieutenant-Governor of the State of New South Wales".

or

"I, the Honourable James Jacob Spigelman, Lieutenant-Governor of the State of New South Wales".

may be used.
