Premier's Department is currently tendering for whole-of-government contract(s) for purchase of media monitoring services. It is intended that the new system will bring about savings through standardising charges for service provision.

It is proposed that the tender, Provision of a press clipping, media reporting, archiving and search service for government departments and agencies for a period of two years with the option to extend for three one-year periods will establish a panel-type contract arrangement. Press secretaries, departmental media units, and other agencies and authorities may then be able to select the most appropriate contractor to satisfy specific needs for the provision of timely and accurate media updates and associated services.

The contracts are intended to operate in conjunction with the Media Monitoring Unit in the Premier's Department, which will continue to provide broadcast media monitoring services to the Premier and Ministers' offices on request.

Premier's Department will keep Ministers' offices and all agencies and authorities informed of developments over the course of the tendering period and during assessment. At this stage, purchasers of media monitoring services could begin to review -their current arrangements.
