Enclosed are two policy documents, Mature Workforce: Policy and Guidelines and Alcohol and Other Drugs: Policy and Guidelines, endorsed by the Premier.
Detailed Outline
Enclosed are two policy documents, Mature Workforce: Policy and Guidelines and Alcohol and Other Drugs: Policy and Guidelines, endorsed by the Premier.
The first document, Mature Workforce, requires agencies to review their existing employment practices to ensure that they are non-discriminatory in terms of age. While mature-aged people are generally considered to be those aged 45 years and onwards, research has shown that people as young as 40 experience age discrimination in employment.
The document provides guidelines and a checklist to help agencies assess their current policies and practice, and to develop strategies to optimise opportunities for mature-aged people to contribute their skills and experience. Agencies wishing to target specific programs at or for mature workers of certain ages should contact the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW for information about obtaining the necessary exemptions on (02) 9318 5444 or 1800 670 812 (toll free in NSW) and for those with internet access, at the Board’s website.
The second document encourages agencies to develop programs aimed at preventing or eliminating problems associated with the misuse or abuse of alcohol and other drugs that affect employees’ performance, conduct or safety in the workplace. It provides principles on which agency-specific policies should be based, and guidelines about the scope and contents of such policies.
Enquiries regarding either of these documents should be directed to Caroline Davidson, Senior Policy Officer on (02) 9228 3563 or [email protected] . To obtain further copies of either document, please complete the form enclosed and return by facsimile to the number provided.
