Detailed Outline
The Public Sector Management Act, 1988 (PMSA) outlines the employment arrangements for staff within Political Office Holders' Offices. The majority of staff within these offices are employed as Special Temporary Employees "STEs". Section 38D(2)(c) of the PSMA states "the employment of a special temporary employee terminates on the day appointed for the taking of the poll for the next general election". This means that all STEs' services will terminate on 27 March 1999.
To enable STEs to continue employment beyond 27 March 1999, I have determined, under s38D(3) of the PSMA, that the employment of STEs, does not terminate.
This determination will be effective from 27 March 1999 until an election result is clear and incoming Government staffing arrangements finalised.
