Detailed Outline
The Premier has approved the extension of the policy on salary sacrifice for superannuation for non-SES public sector employees to members of Government boards and committees. This Circular is an amendment to Premier's Memorandum 99-3, which did not allow salary sacrifice for superannuation for board and committee members.
Premier's Department Circular 98-70 advised of the implementation of salary sacrifice for superannuation for non-SES public sector employees (attached), and the Employer Guidelines. The provisions and guidelines of that policy will apply to members of boards and committees with the exception of the need for an award variation as no award is applicable to members of boards and committees. Members will, however, need to enter into an agreement with the agency under the proposed form at Appendix 3 of the Employer Guidelines.
Chief Executives should note that the amount of salary sacrificed must not exceed 30% of superannuable salary and does not include reimbursements or additional fees for travel and expenses. Arrangements between the agency and the board or committee member must be prospective.
Members of boards and committees should be advised that, subject to agency agreement, contributions can be made to any complying superannuation scheme.
