C2002-50 Public Employees' and Agencies' Involvement in Political Fundraising Activities

Detailed Outline

As we approach the State Election in 2003, Government funded agencies and employees may receive requests to sponsor, or attend functions, for the purpose of fundraising for political parties.

The Premier has asked me to advise you of the importance of all Government agencies and employees complying with Chapter 8-10 'Political and community participation' of the New South Wales Code of Conduct Policy and Guidelines (issued by Premier's Department) with respect to political participation.

This states that:

"Employees must make sure that any participation in party political activities does not conflict with their primary duty as a public employee to service the Government of the day in a politically neutral manner".

Consistent with these election protocols, covered in Memorandum No. 95-3 and Circular No. 2002-46, it is important to note that Government agencies and employees should not use Government funds or resources in support of political fundraising activities.
