Premier's Department Circular 2002-04 notified new standing charges and running costs for SES/Senior Officer motor vehicles effective from 1 December 2001.

These rates, updated annually, are used to calculate the operational costs for motor vehicles that are provided under salary sacrifice arrangements applicable to the SES and Senior Officers.

It has been decided that in future the date for setting these rates should be aligned with the fringe benefit tax (FBT) year, which runs from 1 April to 31 March each year.

A review of the rates applying from 1 December 2001 has shown there has been little movement in costs and that an adjustment now to cover the four month period to 31 March 2003 is not necessary.

I have therefore agreed that the rates set out in Circular 2002 - 4 will continue in force until 31 March 2003, at which stage a Circular setting new rates to apply from 1 April 2003 will be issued.
