C2005-17 Redeployment System Changes

Detailed Outline

I write to advise you of systems changes to the redeployment of displaced employees across the New South Wales public sector which commenced during the week of 11 April 2005.

An online matching system has been established to provide all possible opportunities for displaced employees to find work in the public sector. The system has been established through a partnership between Government Advertising and Information (GAI), Department of Commerce and the Public Employment Office (PEO), Premier's Department.

This system will improve sector-wide mobility for displaced employees by capturing all positions from participating agencies through the jobs.nsw website. The matching of displaced employees to vacant positions, a role previously performed centrally by the PEO, has now been devolved to agency level. Agencies with displaced employees will have first access to vacancies on a daily basis via the jobs.nsw website. Agency case managers and recruitment staff have been trained in the system and will be able to provide direct assistance to displaced employees.

The new system provides:

  • greater efficiency in matching of employee skills to positions;
  • administrative simplification of the redeployment process by eliminating the need for positions to be lodged with the PEO for clearance;
  • job matching opportunities at agency level, closer to the employees who seek them.

In order for agencies to explore redeployment opportunities, publication deadlines have been extended a further five working days. The new deadline for submitting vacancies on jobs.nsw is now close of business Tuesday two weeks prior to publication in the Public Sector Notices.

The Public Employment Office, Premier's Department will oversee the online matching process and continue to provide assistance to agencies undergoing organisational change.

I would appreciate if you could bring this information to the attention of your agency case managers, recruitment staff and displaced employees in your organisation. Further advice and information on the system changes can be directed to Nigel Porter 9228 3168 or Elizabeth Fletcher 9228 4164.

Yours sincerely,

C Gellatly
