Theme: "Our Future Begins with Solidarity"
Agencies are reminded that NAIDOC Week 2005 is to be celebrated from 3-10 July 2005, with Friday 8 July 2005 proclaimed as National Aboriginal and Islander Day.
This years NAIDOC theme is "Our Future Begins with Solidarity"
Agencies are encouraged to support and release Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander staff to participate in NAIDOC celebrations, as set out in 6.19.14.6 of the NSW Government Personnel Handbook 2002.
(i) "A staff member who identifies as an Aborigines or Torres Strait Islander may be granted up to one day's special leave per year to enable the staff member to participate in the National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Commemoration Celebrations".
All agencies are encouraged to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff to participate and engage in NAIDOC Week events.
As a mark of respect and support agencies are also encouraged to fly Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander flags alongside the NSW Flag on their buildings. Agencies not sure of protocol for flying and storing flags should visit our Flying and Storing the Flag page.
