The Government and Related Employees Appeal Tribunal Act 1980 ("GREAT Act") requires employers to nominate a list of between 2 and 40 persons to act as their representatives on the Government and Related Employees Appeal Tribunal for a period of up to three years.

The Director of Public Employment ("DPE") nominates representatives for Public Service Departments listed in Part 1 of Schedule 1 of the Public Sector Employment and Management Act 2002 (PSEM Act).

Public Service Departments are not considered as separate employers under the GREAT Act, and so cannot nominate their own list of representatives.

The DPE seeks advice from you in preparing this list. The current DPE employer representative list is attached to this circular. This list expires on 9 October 2007.

I seek recommendations for the new list based on the number of matters you have at GREAT.

If your organisation is a lower user of GREAT please submit a nil return. If you are a medium user please submit two recommendations with, where possible, one female and one male nominee. If you are a high user of GREAT you should submit three to four recommendations.

When nominating please consider a gender balance, and representing people from non English speaking backgrounds and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Recommendations for the new panel representatives must be received by 10 September 2007 and may be forwarded to facsimile 8243 9489.

You should note the term of the new list is from 10 October 2007 to 9 October 2010.

Successful nominees will be advised in writing and a schedule of the new list of employer representatives for the DPE will be forwarded to you in the near future.
