Detailed Outline

In December 2008, the NSW Government introduced a free shuttle bus service in the Sydney CBD. The service runs in both directions between Circular Quay and Central Railway Station along George and Elizabeth streets, at 10 minute intervals.

The “555” numbered service provides a convenient and free alternative for short trips that may previously have been taken by taxi, agency or private vehicle.

All public sector staff are encouraged to use the distinctive lime green buses for trips within the Sydney CBD. Apart from being a free service, the initiative has a number of other benefits, including:

  • helping to ease traffic congestion; and
  • helping to reduce carbon emissions.

Public Sector staff are also encouraged to use public transport for work-related journeys in preference to taxis or agency vehicles where it is appropriate and reasonable to do so. For more information on public transport services, call 131 500 or visit www.131500.info.
