NAIDOC Week will be celebrated this year between 3 and 10 July with the theme ‘Change: The next step is ours’.
NAIDOC Week gives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people an opportunity to celebrate and share their culture and heritage with the broader Australian community.

Agencies should support and release employees who are members of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to participate in NAIDOC Week events.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff can access Special Leave to participate in NAIDOC Week events, as set out in Clause 6-18.14.5 of the NSW Government Personnel Handbook and Clause 84.9 of the Crown Employees (Public Service Conditions of Employment) Award 2009.
Non-Aboriginal and non-Torres Strait Islander staff who are members of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families should access other forms of leave or flexible work hours.
All employees must seek the agreement of their Manager to access leave or flexible work hours for NAIDOC Week events.
Agencies are also encouraged to fly Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander flags alongside the NSW Flag on their buildings during NAIDOC Week. Information on the protocol for flying all flags can be found at: http://www.dpc.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/784/Flags_and_Emblems.pdf

Which agencies does this Circular apply to?
All public Service Department listed in Schedule 1, Part 1, Divisions 1 and 2 of the Public Sector Employment and Management Act 2002. Other government organisations, including State Owned Corporations, are encouraged to put in place procedures to accommodate NAIDOC Week celebration, where practicable.
Who needs to know about this Circular?
All employees, especially members of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and their managers, Chief Executives, human resource managers, managers and supervisors.
