DCS-2020-06 Infrastructure Data Management Framework

Description

The Infrastructure Data Management Framework (IDMF) provides practical guidance to agencies to plan and manage data associated with state owned infrastructure.

Detailed Outline

The IDMF supports the NSW Government’s State Infrastructure Strategy and Smart Places Strategy

The Infrastructure Data Management Framework (IDMF) provides guidance to support management of data created and used during the planning, design, construction and operation of infrastructure across NSW Government. It is available at: https://data.nsw.gov.au/IDMF.

The Framework was developed in response to recommendation 27 of the NSW State Infrastructure Strategy 2018-2038. It helps NSW Government to realise its smart places vision, as part of broad reforms focused on the convergence of digital and infrastructure.

The IDMF is not mandatory. It is recommended for adoption across NSW Government agencies and entities to ensure that NSW better uses and shares infrastructure data.

The IDMF provides practical guidance on management of infrastructure data

It includes:

  • a principles-based approach to support consistent implementation of infrastructure data improvements across the state

  • common policies, frameworks, standards and other guiding information as foundation elements

  • identification of infrastructure information requirements at an organisational level and across the asset lifecycle

  • identification of information models supported by data management requirements at each phase of the asset lifecycle

  • additional guidance providing more information on specific data related topics.

The IDMF supports agencies to make better decisions using infrastructure data

The consistent approach to management of infrastructure data enables:

  • Better planning and operation of smart places

  • Consistent use and reuse of data across agencies

  • Representation of built assets as part of digital twins

  • Provision of services using smart infrastructure data and insights

  • Understanding and use of data across the lifecycle of built assets.
