The establishment of the New South Wales Traffic Education Centre (NSWTEC) at Armidale has received Government support to ensure that this State has a major resource centre for driver education and training. NSWTEC encompasses a unique approach combining research, education and practical driver and rider training programs in a controlled environment. With the funds made available by the Government during the past two years, I believe NSWTEC is poised to become a world class centre. The Centre, which I opened on 16 March 1991, provides a comprehensive driver and rider training and education facility. Training programs include car, truck and bus advanced driving courses, 4WD drive off and on road operators course, ambulance driver course, defensive motorcycle training, agricultural motorcycle training, traffic safety education and child safety education courses. In addition, the Centre conducts train the trainer programs and driver/rider training related to occupational health and safety programs. The Centre is available for use by Government departments and authorities in all the above areas. Specifically, the Centre can develop a training program tailored to meet the needs of any organisation. Organisations within your administration with driver and rider training and education needs should be encouraged to use the Centre.Accordingly, approval must be obtained from the Director-General of the Premier's Department where any department or authority (which does not have its own facility) proposes to use driver training services other than those provided by NSWTEC.
