M1992-15 Use of Comcar by NSW Government Organisations

Detailed Outline

The fleet of Commonwealth Government vehicles operated by Comcar has been used by NSW Government Agencies to fill the need for VIP transport.

The Department of Transport is in dispute with the management of Comcar who refuse to comply with requirements of the law in NSW covering hire car services to the public. Comcar is therefore in a position of unfair advantage in the market place compared with private competitors.

While this dispute is continuing, it is inappropriate that NSW departments and agencies provide support to Comcar by using Its services.

The Premier would be obliged therefore if you would direct departments within your administration not to use the services of Comcar until further notice and if you would encourage those other agencies within your portfolio which may not be subject to Ministerial direction to similarly refrain from using Comcar.

NSW Supply Service has let a contract to Regency Style Limousines for the provision of hire car services to NSW departments and agencies. Accordingly, there should be no difficulty in obtaining the services needed. The Minister for Administrative Services is writing to Ministers about this contract.

Would you please bring this Memorandum to the notice of all departments and authorities within your portfolio.

R.G. Humphry
Director-General.
