Following the Prime Minister's announcement of 27 July inquiries have been made by some NSW Government agencies about access to Federal funding under the announced programs.

I am anxious to ensure that a co-ordinated approach is adopted within New South Wales and have asked our colleague, the Minister for Education and Youth Affairs and Minister for Employment and Training to accept responsibility for this.

I have asked the Federal Minister to keep Mrs Chadwick informed regarding funding allocations and implementation arrangements. I would also appreciate you liaising with Mrs Chadwick should any of your agencies have an interest.

At officer level, it would be appropriate for agencies to consult Dr C Gellatly, Director-General of the Department of Industrial Relations, Employment, Training and Further Education (telephone 266-8634).

I might add that agencies should be reminded that the Commonwealth is only providing funding for these programs for the next three to four years and Treasury will need to be consulted before embarking on any activity which could have additional resource implications for the State.
