Memorandum 1993-16 of 25th May. 1993 which in part dealt with private office appointments required that Ministers seeking my agreement before engaging for a private office position any person who was not employed in a private office on 24th May.

I have now reviewed the situation and that requirement is no longer in force. Ministers may therefore proceed to fill any vacancies which occur from now on in their private offices with appropriately qualified persons who can be engaged within the financial allocation which has already been notified.

Organisations responsible for the employment of private office staff no longer required, may proceed to redeployment (if secondees) or pay out if they are temporary officers.
