M1995-21 Overseas Travel by Officers of Public Sector Agencies

Detailed Outline

As Ministers will be aware, they are responsible for approving overseas travel by officers of agencies within their portfolios. Memorandum 89-2 sets out the current provisions for official overseas travel. This travel is summarised in agency annual reports and the cost, duration and purpose of each occasion of travel will need to be justified if queried from any quarter.

I refer to Memorandum to all Ministers No. 92-27 which required quarterly returns to be submitted of official overseas travel undertaken by officers of public sector agencies and advise that the requirement for quarterly returns has been reviewed. I have decided that reporting of this information should continue, but on an annual basis.

Commencing with the year ending 30 June 1995 Ministers should furnish me with a return for the full year of official overseas travel undertaken by officers of all agencies in their portfolios including staff of Ministers' own offices.

The information to be supplied is name and position of each person who travelled, countries and cities visited, purpose of the visit, duration, cost to the agency concerned and source of funds for the visit.

Returns should be marked to the attention of Mr K.P. Baxter, Director-General, Premier's Department and submitted by 15 July each year.

Bob Carr,
Premier.
