Detailed Outline
On 4 July 1994 the Commonwealth Government notified amendments to the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations and the Customs (Prohibited Exports) Regulations 1994 numbers 241 and 242, respectively, of the Customs Act 1901.
These regulations refer to the lifting of the arms embargo against South Africa sanctioned by the United Nations, implemented by the Commonwealth Government and supported by the New South Wales Government.
Please ensure that all administrations within your portfolio receive a copy of this memorandum. All agencies should note that any reference to sanctions directed against South Africa, in procurement specifications and contracts for supply must be removed.
This memorandum should be read in conjunction with Memorandum 93-35 dated 12 October 1993 entitled "Lifting of Sanctions against South Africa".
