Detailed Outline
Ethnic affairs policies and programs are integral to the delivery of services by public agencies in our culturally diverse society. Until 1993, NSW public agencies were required to report under the Ethnic Affairs Policy Statement (EAPS) program. In 1994, new reporting arrangements were established under the Charter of Principles for a Culturally Diverse Society. These requirements did not differ substantially from those required under the EAPS program.
I am currently considering future arrangements for further strengthening ethnic affairs programs in NSW public agencies. Until these arrangements are announced, I would be pleased if you would advise NSW public agencies in your portfolio areas that all current ethnic affairs planning and reporting arrangements, as established under the Charter program, remain. The Ethnic Affairs Commission will continue to monitor progress, and require the Charter Implementation Plans and Reports of those agencies designated as key agencies.
In relation to newly established agencies, the Ethnic Affairs Commission has been advised to contact senior officers as soon as possible in order to develop appropriate arrangements for ethnic affairs programs.
Your co-operation in this matter is appreciated.
