M1995-37 Assumption of the Administration of the State by the Lieutenant-Governor

Detailed Outline

His Excellency Rear Admiral Peter Ross Sinclair, A.C., the Governor of the State of New South Wales, will assume the administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia during the absence of His Excellency the Governor-General. As a result, the administration of the Government of the State of New South Wales will, under and in accordance with the procedure prescribed in the Constitution Act 1902, become vested in and exercisable by the Honourable Anthony Murray Gleeson, A.C., the Lieutenant-Governor of the State and Chief Justice of New South Wales for the period 7 October 1995 to 5 November 1995 inclusive.

In this regard, during the period 7 October 1995 to 5 November 1995 inclusive the appropriate wording to use on instruments, including commissions, proclamations etc, should reflect the fact that justice Gleeson will approve the instruments in his capacity as Lieutenant-Governor, as follows:

Replace any reference to 'His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of Executive Council' with: 'His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council'; and

Replace any reference to: Rear Admiral Peter Ross Sinclair, A.C., Governor of the State of New South Wales,' with: the Honourable Anthony Murray Gleeson, A.C., Lieutenant-Governor of the State of New South Wales,'

Please note that this is a different procedure from that recently used when the Lieutenant-Governor was acting as the Governor's Deputy.

Please ensure that the relevant parts of your administration are notified of these changes.
