M1996-12 Agency Co-operation with the Film and Television Industry

Detailed Outline

The Government is committed to increasing the economic and cultural benefits of a healthy film and television industry in New South Wales.

Close relationships between agencies and the film and television industry, facilitated by the NSW Film and Television Office (FTO), will assist New South Wales to maintain current levels of film production and to attract additional activity.

Legislation is being prepared to amend the Film Industry Act 1988, to establish more clearly the role of the NSW Film and Television Office to promote and strengthen the industry.

It would be appreciated if Government departments and agencies would provide every possible co-operation to film producers and the FTO's Location Liaison Unit to assist production crews working in areas managed by NSW Government agencies.

Departments and agencies are reminded of the need to:

  • keep fees as low as possible
  • minimise delays in processing applications for access
  • promote reasonable access to locations
  • nominate a film contact officer and advise the FTO of any changes
  • ensure that film contact officers are aware of the need to accommodate film production and identify film opportunities within their area
  • inform the FTO of any filming on Government property
  • notify the FTO of any difficulties encountered with film production on Government property
  • provide the FTO with any information and available photographs it may request regarding State Government properties.

Agencies should develop clear policies for assisting the film industry. The NSW Film and Television Office will be pleased to assist in advising on film policy for departments and agencies. Please direct advice and enquires to:
