The Statutory and Other Offices Remuneration Tribunal (SOORT) has made its annual Determination in relation to the Chief and Senior Executive Service (SES).

In summary the Tribunal has determined that:

• Rates for each band be increased by 3 percent on and from 1 October 1996;
• A more formalised system of performance based pay be introduced on and from 1 January 1997;
• A Recruitment and Retention Allowance be introduced on and from 1 October 1996, in recognition of the difficulties in recruiting and retaining SES officers with specialist skills; and
• Remuneration packages for Medical specialists be increased similarly to other SES officers on and from 1 October 1996.

Attached for your information is a copy of the Determination and the administrative guidelines which advise how the Determination should be implemented. It should be noted that State Owned Corporations are not covered by this Determination.
