The Australia Day Council of New South Wales has been appointed as the key organisation in planning and conducting Centenary of Federation celebrations and events in New South Wales.

The Council has also been authorised to pursue corporate and other sponsorship opportunities with a view to maximising public participation and expanding the range of related projects and events.

To maximise Government participation in Centenary of Federation projects, events and celebrations, would you please arrange for departments and agencies within your portfolio to review their forward estimates for capital projects scheduled for completion during the years leading to 2001 so that as many of these projects as possible may be given a Centenary of Federation theme.

Departments and agencies should be asked to submit details of suitable projects to the Premier's Department and to liaise with the Department on all related aspects including theme selection.

Centenary of Federation events and celebrations should also be promoted and publicised through Government publications and departments and agencies should be invited to actively participate in all events and celebrations.

Each department and agency should appoint a Centenary of Federation liaison officer who should make immediate contact with Mr Jeff Fitzgerald, Assistant Director, Community Projects and Management Services, Premier's Department, either by phone on (02) 9228 5221 or fax on (02) 9228 5249 to provide the Department with a single contact point for that agency.

Each department or agency might also provide Mr Fitzgerald with a brief outline of each project with potential, including information on purpose, cost and anticipated completion date. Special mention might be made of any instances where direct participation in Centenary events has already been planned and particulars of regular promotions or publications by the agency might also be supplied.

It would be of assistance if contact could be made with Mr Fitzgerald and project outlines supplied before Friday, 9 May, 1997.
