In December, 1996 I announced the creation of the Premier's Public Sector Awards to recognise outstanding achievements in the NSW Public Sector. I am now pleased to inform you of the structure for the Awards.
The Awards will be open to nominees from all NSW public sector agencies and services including Government Trading Enterprises and State Owned Corporations. There will be three categories to recognise achievements making a significant contribution to the economy and/or environment of NSW; achievements that significantly improve the service outcomes (including to regional or rural NSW); and achievements that deliver improved social justice and/or employment equity outcomes.
I am inviting nominations to be submitted to the Director-General of the Premier's Department who will Chair the Judging Panel and make recommendations to me for both Awards and Commendations for achievements. The inaugural Awards ceremony will be held towards the end of November, 1997.
Guidelines and application forms will be available from the Public Sector Management Office from 1 May, 1997. Accordingly, I ask all Ministers to support this initiative and ensure that Chief Executive Officers consider submitting nominations from their agencies for the Premier's Public Sector Awards
