On 30 October 1997 NSW will take part in the inaugural National Consumers Day. The theme of this day will be emerging issues in electronic commerce.

As part of this State's contribution to the proceedings, I propose to mark the occasion by releasing a consolidated report setting out the Government's consumer protection achievements since March 1995.

To enable this report to be prepared, Departments and agencies within your administration will need to provide information about legislative and administrative consumer protection initiatives which have either been implemented or which are currently in train.

1 have requested the Hon. Mrs Lo Po', Minister for Fair Trading and Minister for Women to co-ordinate this stocktake of achievements. To assist in preparing the report, your Departments and agencies should provide information in the format outlined in the attached template.

It would be of assistance if each Department and agency could identify a liaison officer to make immediate contact with Mr Downing. I would be grateful if the relevant information could be provided to Mr Downing before Friday, 10 October 1997.
