Sunday 12 October 2003 marks the first anniversary of the tragic events that took place in Bali resulting in the death of 88 Australians, the maiming of so many others and the impact on so many families.

As a mark of respect to the victims and their families the flags on all government buildings and establishments will fly at half-mast on 12 October 2003. All departments and agencies should make a special effort to ensure flags can be flown at half-mast on 12 October 2003.

Wherever possible I would request that one minute's silence be held at 12.00noon in memory of the many victims of the Bali tragedy.
