Description
Superseded by C2010-33Detailed Outline
On Friday 3 October 2008, the Pedestrian Council of Australia will encourage people to leave their cars at home and instead walk all or part of the way to work.
Walk to Work Day originated in New South Wales and is now a national community awareness event that aims to:
- promote regular walking as a healthy activity - creating better physical, mental and social health;
- reduce the reliance on the private motor vehicle;
- promote and improve the use of public transport; and
- improve air quality by reducing unnecessary vehicle emissions.
This year's event Better Health - Cleaner Air encourages people to build walking into their day and to walk all or part of the way to work every day for the sake of their health and that of the environment.
The NSW Government supports Walk to Work Day and all public sector staff are encouraged to participate in the spirit of the event on 3 October 2008.
This year the Pedestrian Council of Australia is asking corporations, organisations and government agencies to register as corporate ambassadors.
