Detailed Outline
White Ribbon Day occurs on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Everyone, particularly men, is urged to wear a White Ribbon on that day to symbolize support for the elimination of violence against women.
16 Days of Activism to Stop Violence Against Women runs from 25 November to 10 December and is a campaign to raise awareness of violence against women, and encourage individuals and communities to take action to help make the lives of women safer. It complements White Ribbon Day.
Department of Premier and Cabinet staff can support White Ribbon Day and 16 Days of Activism by wearing White Ribbons for the period 25 November to 10 December 2008.
White Ribbons can be purchased from the Office for Women’s Policy at a cost of $2.00 each. The proceeds of the sales will be given to the White Ribbon Day Foundation to assist with its anti-violence campaigns. To arrange purchase of the White Ribbons please contact Lesley Prior on (02) 9228 4168 or [email protected].
