Keypoints

The parking space levy has substantially increased effective from 1 July 2009 as announced in the November 2008 mini budget.
Circular 2009-11 SES/Senior Officer Motor Vehicle Charges 2009-2010 advised of the increased levy rate as it applies to SES and Senior Officers.
This Circular extends the advice to other public sector employees who may be affected by the parking space levy.
Apart from the increased rates, administrative and payment procedures remain unchanged.

The Government announced a substantial increase to the parking space levy in the November 2008 mini budget and subsequently introduced the Parking Space Levy Act 2009 and Parking Space Levy Regulation 2009.

Circular 2009-11 SES/Senior Officer Motor Vehicle Charges 2009-2010 included advice about the increased parking space levy rates for Senior Executive and Senior Officers.

This Circular extends the advice in respect of other public sector employees who may be affected by the parking space levy.

The following increased rates are effective from 1 July 2009:

Category 1 areas (business districts of the City of Sydney and North Sydney) increase to $2000 pa per space
Category 2 areas (business districts of the Bondi Junction, Chatswood, Parramatta and St Leonards) increase to $710 pa per space.

In future financial years, the rates will be indexed to the Sydney CPI as has occurred in the past.
