P1995-10 Advertising Public Sector Positions

Description

To meet the Government's objective of ensuring access to information about vacancies across the whole of the public sector, a new publication called "Public Sector Notices" is to be introduced by the Public Employment Office (PEO), effective from 1 July 1995.

Detailed Outline

To meet the Government's objective of ensuring access to information about vacancies across the whole of the public sector, a new publication called "Public Sector Notices" is to be introduced by the Public Employment Office (PEO), effective from 1 July 1995.

These new Notices will incorporate the current Public Service Notices, and, initially, will include all public sector vacancies advertised in the press. The new Notices will also publish details of appointments to advertised vacancies.

This will be a comprehensive collection of vacancies advertised by public service departments and statutory bodies outside the public service. State Owned Corporations are invited to participate in this scheme. Details of planned arrangements are set out in the Attachment.

Where an organisation outside the public service considers that existing arrangements for advertising categories of vacancies satisfy the Government's objectives for access and equal employment opportunity, and advertising in the new Notices would be impractical, a submission seeking exemption for those categories of positions should be made to the PEO by 20 June 1995.

Under these arrangements, from the week commencing 1 July 1995, all vacancies that would have been advertised in the Public Service Notices and/or the press are to be forwarded to the Public Employment Office, unless an exemption has been approved

The Workforce Management Centre (WMC) will match displaced employees with suitable vacancies. Matched vacancies will not be advertised until consultations between the WMC and the organisation with the vacancy are completed. The WMC will forward other advertisements to the Government Advertising Agency to publish in the Public Sector Notices and/or the press.

The PEO is consulting the Labor Council of New South Wales and affiliates regarding the scheme.

Comments or suggestions from public sector organisations regarding the operation of the scheme are invited by 20 June 1995.
