Detailed Outline
Premier's Memorandum to all Ministers No. 95-30 set new rates of remuneration for persons appointed to NSW Government boards and committees. There has been some confusion as to the entitlement to remuneration of public employees appointed to boards or committees. All employees of public service Departments and Administrative Offices, statutory bodies outside the public service and State Owned Corporations are considered to be public employees.
Under normal circumstances public employees are not to be remunerated where they sit on a board or committee as part of their official duties or as representatives of their agency. This is in line with policy decisions stopping public employees from 'double dipping'. However, where the board or committee is not related to their employment, differential rates of remuneration may be determined. Each case will be assessed on its own merits and determined by the Premier.
