P1996-42 Appointments to Government Boards, Committees, etc

Description

PEO Circular No. 1996-11 refers to the arrangements for appointments to Government boards and committees. Amendments have been made to the attached standard report which is submitted to the PEO as part of the formal documentation for proposed appointments to boards and committees.

Detailed Outline

PEO Circular No. 1996-11 refers to the arrangements for appointments to Government boards and committees. Amendments have been made to the attached standard report which is submitted to the PEO as part of the formal documentation for proposed appointments to boards and committees.

The Government is committed to increasing the level of participation of Women, Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islanders, and people of a non-English speaking background (including cultural backgrounds other than English) on NSW Government boards and committees.

There are currently over 6000 people registered on the Public Employment Office's (PEO's) boards and committees database. At the present time it is not possible to determine how many of these people identify as either Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander, or are from a non-English speaking background, or have a disability.

To enable the PEO to compile accurate statistics on the levels of representation of each of these groups, members of boards and committees will be requested to indicate whether they are of Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander descent, or are from a non-English speaking background, or have a disability, at the time of their appointment. This information should be recorded on the attached standard report. The information will be kept confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes.

Appointees to Government boards and committees are also asked to indicate at the time of their appointment whether they are members of any other Government board or committee. Members have a responsibility to the boards and committees which they represent and should not be over committed by virtue of appointment to too many organisations.

Other arrangements referred to in Circular 1996-11 continue to operate.

Any enquiries on this matter should be directed to Sarah Bradshaw on telephone number (02) 9228 4657.
