About
Following a review of the policy on access to Subscriber Trunk Dialing services, it has been decided to devolve to Department Heads the authority to approve STD usage.
Department Heads should bear in mind principles of economy and efficiency in approving STD access, including:
- Only officers with a frequent need to use STD should have access.
- Implementation of suitable controls such as PIN numbers or locking devices to ensure the security of telephones with STD facilities against unauthorised usage, particularly after office hours.
- Duration and numbers of calls should be kept to a minimum.
- Use of STD should be limited to those instances where it is economic in comparison with other forms of communication.
- Consideration should be given as to whether nation-wide STD access or NSW only is required.
