NSW public sector organisations have been active supporters of the Australian Defence Forces Reserves, and employees have been encouraged to participate in the Reserves. Because of the significant changes over recent years in the personnel managing the State's public sector, it is timely to re-confirm the State's continuing commitment to encouraging its employees' active involvement in the Reserves.

The Staff and Personnel Handbook outlines in detail the current military leave entitlements of part-time volunteer members of the Defence Forces. This paid leave is normally in addition to annual leave. Similar leave arrangements apply to the staff of other Declared Authorities.
