About

In his recently completed Special Audit on Training's Facilities in the State's Disciplined Services, the Auditor-General came to the conclusion that the Police Academy at Goulburn was underutilised. Accordingly, 1 am writing to advise the public sector of the availability of the Police Academy for conference and training purposes.

Goulburn is located in the middle of the Southern Highlands. a little over an hour by car from the Metropolitan area.

The Police Academy has accommodation for 646 people each in a room of their own. at varying standards up to and including motel style units.

The facilities available for use at the Academy include:

  • 19 lecture rooms with a combined capacity for 707 people 3 large lecture theatres with a combined capacity for 497 people: 2 PC training rooms;
  • library;
  • video production facility;
  • parade ground and drill area;
  • gymnasium, sports centre and outside training circuit: social amenities. including a bar: an indoor pistol range, a mock village, court room and police station, an extensive driver training facility which includes a sk-id pan and trail bike training circuit.

The nature of these facilities means that the Academy is suitable for a large range of users.

The on-site cafeteria serves three quality meals a day. It is significant to note that the Police Service already offers the Academy to other NSW public sector agencies on a cost recovery basis, thereby minimising conference and training costs to those agencies.

I strongly commend the Academy to you and am confident that you will find the facilities and services offered to be particularly cost effective.

Full details of rates and availability of facilities can be obtained from the Conference Organiser. Mrs Faye Tansley, who can be reached on telephone 048-232582 or fax 048-232514.

Yours sincerely,

R.G. Humphry
Director-General.
