Detailed Outline
A key part of the Government's contracting and market testing strategy is the sharing of information on best practices. With the continuing expansion of competitive tendering beyond traditional areas there is a need to broaden the understanding within the public sector of issues related to contracting.
To that end, and as a result of a collaboration between the Office of Public Management., the Graduate School of Business of the University of Sydney and the Royal Institute of Public Administration Australia (RIPAA), a series of half -day workshops on contracting and tendering will be conducted during the period May to October, 1994. Brochures with full details are attached. Enquiries should be directed to RIPAA, telephone 02 228 5225 or 228 4375.
The first workshop on May 13th will address issues encountered in determining what can be contracted out. Later workshops will examine critical issues and processes in tendering and contracting. The workshops will be repeated on additional dates if oversubscribed.
There are various other opportunities for the development of knowledge in tendering and contracting and officers should be encouraged to pursue those which suit the needs of each agency. TAFE for example has developed course modules in contracts formation, contracts administration and project management which can be delivered on the premises of employers as well as in TAFE colleges. Details of the TAFE modules can be obtained by telephoning the TAFE course co-ordinator on 02 217 3357.
The Office of Public Management publishes guidelines and case studies which are available free of charge to NSW government agencies. The current list of publications is set out overleaf. Requests should be made by fax to 02 228 3277. General enquiries may be made to OPM on 02 228 4870. Additional case studies are in preparation and will be advertised when available.
