Detailed Outline
Following advice from the Attorney-General concerning recommendations from the Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee (AJAC) regarding public sector employment notices, agencies are requested to:
a) Use plain language in all public sector employment notices and advertisements; particularly where the position is one designated for Aboriginal people.
b) Define terms such as EEO, EAPS, OH&S and other abbreviations, and explain their relationship to the advertised job in the information packages sent to potential applicants.
These arrangements will not only assist Aboriginal people, but other EEO groups and members of the public who may not be familiar with abbreviations and acronyms commonly used in the public sector.
To support these measures, the Public Service Notices and the composite NSW Government Positions advertisement in the major newspapers will now advise potential applicants that they can obtain further information about these terms from the contact person named in the job advertisement.
Could you please bring the revised arrangements to the attention of all relevant areas within your administration.
