About

The Parliamentary Remuneration Tribunal has determined that when travelling on official business Ministers will be paid the following travelling allowances per day effective as from 1 July 1996:

Capital Cities Other Areas Where no overnight stay is involved

$260 $151 $66

An absence from Sydney for a period in excess of six hours shall be the minimum requirement for the payment of travelling allowance where no overnight absence is involved. Where absence overnight is involved, the absence must extend six hours beyond the first period of twenty four hours before the second day's allowance is payable. Therefore, the second day's allowance is as shown in the column headed "Where no overnight stay is involved".

It is to be noted that the allowance is not to be paid as an hourly rate. The allowance is paid per day or for part day when travel is in excess of six hours but less than twenty four hours.

Any enquiries should be directed to Terry Willison on 9228 5515.
