C1997-09 Review of Allowances

Detailed Outline

The purpose of this Circular is to advise Chief Executives of a 10% increase in the allowances specified in the attached schedule applying to employees of Departments effective from 1 January 1997.

These allowances together with meal and travelling allowances (see Circular No. 96-47) are to be reviewed in line with movements in the Consumer Price Index on a regular basis. The next review will be from 1 September 1997 and each twelve months thereafter.

Other NSW public sector organisations are encouraged to review their allowances.

REVIEW OF ALLOWANCES

The Premier's Department, Public Sector Management Office has increased the following allowances payable to employees of departments from 1 January 1997:

(I) Section 7 - Motor Vehicle Allowances - Appendix A -Types of Allowances and

Amounts

1. Motor car allowance

(a) Official business rate:

Engine capacity Rate per kilometre

over 270Occ 62.2 cents

1600 to 270Occ 57.9 cents

Under 1600cc 41.4 cents

(b) Specified journey rate:

2. Motor cycle allowance

The insurance premium on essential personal effects carried by the public servant is not to exceed $A990.
