A review has been conducted of the car allowances payable to part-time members of boards, committees, etc for the use of their private motor vehicles on official business.

The new rates, effective from 1 April 1997, are aligned with public sector rates as issued by the Public Sector Management Office. The rates currently are 62.2 cents per kilometre for vehicles with an engine capacity greater than 2700cc, 57.9 cents for vehicles 1600 to 2700cc, and 41.4 cents for vehicles under 1600cc.
