The purpose of this Circular is to advise you of the making of a Crown Employees (Senior Officers 1997) Award.

You will recall that in December 1996 I issued a Determination and Guidelines on the Senior Officer classification. The issue of salary packaging of motor vehicles remained unresolved at that time.

The Award was made by the NSW Industrial Relations Commission on 4 July 1997 and provides for the salaries of Senior Officers as well as for the salary packaging of motor vehicles in accordance with SES arrangements. The Award applies to Departments only.

In accordance with the Guidelines on Senior Officers, it would be appreciated if your organisation could forward for evaluation the position descriptions of those positions currently in receipt of a skill shortage allowance. It is intended that they be considered for inclusion in the Senior Officer structure and that the skill shortage allowance arrangement cease wherever possible.
