C1998-60 Centenary of Federation - Progress Briefing - 1998

Detailed Outline

Premier's Memorandum No. 97-6 (Centenary of Federation Celebrations in New South Wales) dated 9 April, 1997, invited agencies to-

  1. Review their forward estimates to identify capital projects scheduled for completion during the years leading to and including the year 2001 so that as many projects as possible could be considered for identification with the Centenary of Federation.
  2. Explore means by which Centenary of Federation events and celebrations could be promoted and publicised through regular agency publications.
  3. Determine how agencies could actively participate in events and celebrations.

Agencies were also asked to communicate the results of these actions by briefing this Department and nominating a person who would be the point of liaison between the agency and Centenary organisers.

Many of you responded very positively to this Memorandum and the body now responsible for Centenary of Federation activities in this State, the New South Wales Centenary of Federation Committee, has been most grateful for agency assistance provided to date.

The Chairman of the New South Wales Centenary of Federation Committee, The Hon Barrie Unsworth, has asked this Department to provide his Committee with an opportunity to formally introduce itself to Chief Executive Officers and to those persons who will be actively associated with Centenary arrangements over the next few years.

I have arranged for Mr Unsworth and his staff to give two presentations.

The first presentation will be given to those persons who are appointed to the liaison role. This presentation will take place at 10 am on Friday, 4 September, 1998, in the State Reception Centre on Level 41 of the Governor Macquarie Tower, 1 Farrer Place, Sydney.

The presentation to Chief Executive Officers will occur during the already scheduled CEOs Retreat on 6-7 November next.

To ensure maximum benefit from the liaison officers' briefing on 4 September, it is proposed that the following preparatory action be taken-

  1. Liaison Officer appointments should be reviewed and fresh contact details supplied, including name, designation, location, phone and fax numbers. This information should be faxed to the Centenary of Federation Committee office on (02) 9258-0055. It would be of assistance, if this could be done before Friday, 21 August next.
  2. Appointed Liaison Officers should take the opportunity to again review the agency's capital program with a view to updating information already provided, or recommending projects not previously communicated, and identifying other participation or publicity opportunities. This information might be provided in summary form at the Liaison Officers' briefing.
