Detailed Outline
Premier's Circular No 98-76, which was issued to all CEOs in September last year, detailed the requirements for the submission of agency's Year 2000 quarterly reports to the Office of Information Technology.
On 8 December 1998, Cabinet agreed to amend the reporting period to monthly updates. To that end, all agencies are now required to submit their Year 2000 Project Monthly Reports to the Office of Information Technology by COB on the third Friday of each month, up to and including November, 1999. The reporting dates are:
19 February 16 July
19 March 20 August
16 April 17 September
21 May 15 October
18 June 19 November
This will allow the Government progress to be assessed by the CEO Task Force which will meet the following week. The report will then be endorsed by the Minister before being submitted to Cabinet the first Tuesday of the following month.
Agencies are required to provide a percentage estimate of the progress towards completion of the requirements established by Premier's Memorandum 98-14.
OIT has placed on its website, www.y2k.gov.au, the reporting format required by OIT in a format that allows electronic entry of data. The format has not changed.
Electronic data entry will be operating in time for agencies to electronically submit their reports for the February reporting period. Agencies will be advised when this capability is operational via the Year 2000 electronic discussion group.
The monthly reporting process is designed to ensure that the report to Government is not a surprise to either agencies or CEOs as it will reflect the progress that has been reported to the Year 2000 Team.
