As the Y2K project end date (15 October, 1999) has now passed, it is important that the NSW Government is in a position to "sign-off 'on its readiness.

Cabinet agreed on the 18 October, 1999 to a process of Ministerial "sign-off" from Agency CE0s. The "signoffs" should certify that all Y2K project work on resources required to meet critical business functions, as identified in the rectification plan, have been completed to the fullest practical extent and that all Cabinet requirements have been meet.

Cabinet decided that each Minister should meet with their portfolio CE0s by the 31 October, 1999 and obtain advice and assurances:

• on how the project was implemented;
• that all resources required to ensure critical business functions are maintained have been identified, assessed and, where necessary, rectified;

that the findings of the external certifications, including what action, if any, was required to address any areas of concern, have been implemented;

• that all Cabinet requirements have been reasonably satisfied; and
• that the entirety of the Minister's portfolio(s) has been covered.

The assistance of the Year 2000 Project Team is available if required. CE0s should be ready to meet with their Ministers and provide the required information.

Once the necessary assurances have been given, 1 have been requested to seek Ministers' assistance in advising The Cabinet Office that they are either satisfied with the position of their portfolios or, if not, what areas remain outstanding and require attention. This will enable a consolidated report to be prepared and submitted for review by the IT Cabinet Sub Committee.
